Our Greek Assembly!

In the last couple of weeks, the year 6 have been extremely busy! The gym display this year blew us all away, yet again. And in between gym rehearsals, children have been whisked away to various sporting events. On top of all this, we have been expecting them to work hard revising for their SATs!

Maths: We have focusing on data handling, particularly on interpreting different types of charts, including pie charts and line graphs. Greg and Max taught their classes today how to construct a pie chart given a specific set of data. They did remarkably well. Although, admittedly, Max did confess teaching may not be a chosen career path! Shame, he'd be brilliant!

English: Each set has been planning and writing a story this week. Perhaps you might want to ask them about it. Can they give you a quick summary of the plot?

Finally, as we have been working hard rehearsing for our assembly next week, we haven't had the chance to have a science lesson. That said our science day last week gave us plenty of opportunities to use our investigative skills. Perhaps your children can talk to you about camouflage... what can they remember?

The following two songs are for the children's benefit. We will need them to learn these (and practise their actions) ready for next week:

The wooden horse:

In Sparta they fight harder than the average Ancient Greek.
The world is at their feet,
They're the military elite.

The Trojans have no notion of the ancient art of war.
They can’t stand too much gore,
A fundamental flaw.

The Greeks are so much smarter than the average man of war.
We know what we’re fighting for,
That’s why

There has to be some strategy beyond the force of arms.
The enemy is charmed,
He’s totally disarmed.
When I look in the mirror I'm the coolest guy I see. There’s nobody like me.
I’m the key to victory
.

The Greeks are so much smarter than the average man of war.

We don’t care what people say,
That is why we lead the way,
When we’re fighting cheek to cheek.
We fight them on the beaches and we fight them in the street.
We can’t accept defeat,
But it’s not about retreat.

The time has come to climb upon
Sha ba-du, da ba-du, de ba-du, da ba-du, De ba-du, da ba-du, de ba-du day
The trusty wooden horse
Is a tactical resource.

The Greeks are so much smarter than the average man of war.
Open wide let’s climb inside,
Be the masters of disguise,
When you’re fighting cheek to cheek.

It's a Spartan Life:

It's the Spartan life for us
It's the SPARTAN life for us

Steada treated,
We get tricked
Steada kisses,
We get kicked
It's the SPARTAN life!

Got no folks to speak of, so
It's the hard knock row we hoe
Cotton blankets ...steada wool

Empty bellies ...steada full!
It's the SPARTAN life

Don't if feel like the wind is always howling?
Don't it seem like there's never any light?
Once a day, don't you wanna throw the towel in?
It's easier than puttin' up a fight

No one's there when your dreams at night get creepy
No one cares if you grow...or if you shrink
No one cries when your eyes get wet and weepy
From all the cryin' you would think this place would sink
Oh.. oh

Empty belly life!
Rotten smelly life!
Full of sorrow life!
No tomorrow life!

Jupiter we never see...
Jupiter what's that? Who's he?

Have a lovely weekend and see you Monday

The Year 6 team.
