What a day!
Beautiful weather and well behaved children have made today another fantastic day. We visited the Model Village, followed by Amazon World and enjoyed an evening of ten pin bowling - what a great way to celebrate a birthday!

Eisteddfod, Music and More...
What a wonderful week it has been watching some fantastic Eisteddfod performances by pupils across the school. It's so lovely to have the opportunity to see what the children get up to outside of the classroom. We have some very talented performers in year 6!
Aside from Eistedffod, the children have been working very hard in English, editing and improving their work and showing off all the skills they have learnt this year. We are very proud of the effort they have put in and what they have achieved.
If you want to further support your child at home, we would like them to learn the words to the following songs they will be singing in the music concert:
All that is gold does not glitter

Bilbo’s Riddle
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not reached by the frost
From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that has broken
The crownless again shall be king.
El cumbanchero
A
cumba, cumba, cumba, cumbanchero,
A
bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo sero.
When
in Cuba you can do the cumbanchero, bongo sero
que

Bongo
sero que seva
Hear
all Havana bongos drum,
Bum
bum ba.
See
all Havana guitars strum,
Tum
tum ta.
A
cumba, cumba, cumba, cumbanchero,
A
bongo, bongo, bongo, bongo sero.

Cumba!
Riddles in the dark
What has roots as nobody sees?
Is taller than trees
Up, up it goes
And yet never returns?
Voiceless it cries
Wingless it flutters
Toothless bites
Mouthless mutters
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt
It lies behind stars and under hills
And empty holes it fills
It comes out first and follows after
Ends life, kills laughter.
Alive without breath
As cold as death
Never thirsty, ever drinking
All in mail, never clinking.
This thing all things devours
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers
Gnaws iron, bites steel
Grinds hard stones to meal
Slays king, ruins town
And beats mountain down.
We are the Young
We are the young, the children of the world
We hold tomorrow in our hands
We are the young, the promise of a brighter
day
The future waits at our command.
Teach us well; teach us how to care,
Give us love, love that we can share
And we’ll walk hand in hand in the light of
the rising sun
We are the young.
We are the young, and so we look to you
To show us how the world should be
We are the young: we trust in your
experience
To help us shape our destiny.
Teach
us well; teach us how to care,
Give us love, love that we can share
And we’ll walk hand in hand in the light of
the rising sun
We are the young.
That day is dawning when we will be grown
We will inherit this world for our own
We are the young, the children of the world
We hold tomorrow in our hands
We are the young, the promise of a brighter
day
The future waits at our command.
Teach us well; teach us how to care,
Give us love, love that we can share
And we’ll walk hand in hand in the light of
the rising sun
We are the young.
We are the young
We are the young.
We hope you have a wonderfully restful half term break and look forward to seeing the children bright and bubbly on Monday to depart for the Isle of Wight.

You can do it year 6!
It’s hard to
believe we are now well over half way through the year and year 6 will be doing
their SATS tests next week- how time flies!

Apart from
revision, we have nearly completed our Ancient Greek topic and the children are
looking forward to making their Greek theatre masks in DT next week. In Science,
the children have also been enjoying our new topic: Evolution and Adaptation.
No homework has
been set this weekend to enable the children to rest and relax, ready for an
enthusiastic start on Monday. The timetable for the week is as follows:
Tuesday:
SPAG
Wednesday: Arithmetic
and Reasoning 1
Thursday: Reasoning
2
We hope you
all have a lovely weekend; the children really deserve it. Pupils of Elm and
Elder, we are so proud of all you have achieved so far this year!
