Well, the first day of SATs is over and the children worked really hard. We felt that the reading test was a fair paper but, in its new format, quite challenging to complete to time.
We hope that the children all feel that they did their best .
We know that this week can be stressful, more so for some than others. Some ways in which you can help your child is by ensuring that they do not get over tired as the week progresses- early nights, a good breakfast before they come to school, a snack for break time even if they do not normally do so and a bottle of water in case they want a drink during any test.
We know that the children have all worked extremely hard throughout the year and they are all well and truly ready for whatever the rest of week's papers brings. It's now up to the children to do themselves proud and show off what they can do.

Lastly, a reminder that Friday is our picnic lunch day. To celebrate the end of all their hard work the children will be having a picnic lunch in the front garden- weather permitting, and the forecast is set fair at the moment.

SATs week is now upon us
Good evening
We hope that you have all had a happy and restful weekend.
You will have seen the timetable for the SATs tests in last week's blog. In order to ensure that all tests can take place before lunch (and therefore enable all children to relax in the afternoons) we will need to start our first test at 9.10am each morning. This means that we will be particularly keen for the children to arrive in class promptly at 8.50am each day! This will allow us sufficient time to ensure that everyone is settled and ready to begin on time.
We have been asked to remind parents that the children will be having their photograph taken for the yearbook on Friday afternoon.
Finally, don't forget to send in a white/pale t-shirt for your child to decorate this week. If at all possible t-shirts should be in school tomorrow.
We look forward to seeing the children tomorrow morning.

Latest update
Another busy week with everyone working extremely hard.
As we move closer to the annual SATs week we would like to update you on the format for the weeks ahead.
Today the children should have brought home a letter detailing the time table for the week beginning the 12th May. We have tried to arrange the timetable so that all the children have completed their tests by lunch time each day in order for the afternoons to be more relaxed with some fun activities. As you can see from the time table there will be more PE sessions that week so children need to make sure that they have their kit in school every day.
One of the art activities is creating their own T-shirt to wear on school journey and possibly in their leaving assembly at the end of the year.
These can be white or coloured, but do need to be pale in colour or the pens and fabric crayons won't show up. We would prefer them to have a short sleeve rather than a vest top so that if it is hot and sunny on our trip to the Isle Of Wight then shoulders are covered while we are ouside all day.
If there is a problem with providing a T-shirt then please speak to your child's class teacher. Children should bring the shirt they are going to use into school on Monday 12th May.
Along with the other letters that came home today is one about cycling proficiency. We do have to let the people who run this activity know definite numbers before half term so please ensure that replies are brought into school as soon as possible.
Children also brought home a letter about the trip to the Isle of Wight today. We will be talking to them about everything during school days, but please do come along to the talk on Monday 19th May, in Elder, when Mrs Doran will be talking all about the exciting activities planned.

Week 1, Summer Term
Year 6 have had a great start to the term - they have all come very very dedicated and motivated to do well. The next few weeks are going to fly by before our last assessment week of the year.
The children are all aware of what their targets are and have a number of different websites/resources/places they can go to prepare. If you do have any questions or concerns, do pop in and see one of us.
On a lighter note we had a great session on Friday afternoon with The Happy Puzzle Company. The activities were great and the children responded well to each challenge. We were really proud of their team work skills and hope they enjoyed the activity.
We also need to say a huge well done to our chess team this week. They came joint 14 but with only 1 point between them and second place, it was a very close tournament.
We hope that you all have a good weekend and look forward to seeing you for a full week next week.

The end of another very busy week in year 6.
A big thank you to all of the parents who came to see us at consultations this week. It was lovely to be able to see so many of you and pass on in our words how pleased we are with your children's hard work this year.
This last week finished with our trip to Harry Potter Studios- a great day out for all involved; adults and children alike.
Whilst we were aware that some of the children had visited the studios before, for many it was their first time and the looks on their faces and the comments overheard certainly made it a worthwhile event. We were lucky to tie our visit in with the second anniversary of the opening of the attraction to the public and so alongside all the usual displays and activities was the opportunity to meet and talk to the graphics team who had worked in the films- these talented people had been involved in the design of many of the props for the films. Some of the guides went that extra mile and talked us through particular scenes and how each set was used and adapted as the actors grew up in both size and age throughout the films.
Did you know that the four poster beds in the Gryffindor dormitory had to be cut and extended on several occasions as Harry, Ron and Neville grew. Despite these alterations they were never filmed lying in bed by the time the last few films were recorded; sitting on the bed, leaning on the bed, but never asleep in bed because they simply didn't fit anymore and the overall size of the set was too small to take bigger beds!
It was the extra details that made the difference to our experience as we went round yesterday.
A fantastic day for everyone and we hope that your children came home and told you all about it without spoiling the magic if you haven't already been!
As we move into our final week of the spring term- no the pace does not slow down- we look forward to the year 5 and 6 gym display, certainly one of my favourite events of the year.
Let's hope the sun continues to shine over the weekend, throughout the next week and on into the holidays.

Last week finished with many of year 6 participating in their last ever Eisteddfod- what an amazing group of talented children we have at Crabtree. If any parents were lucky enough to be able to watch their off spring I am sure that you will agree that it cetainly was a memorable sight.
If any children still have display items in school could you please prompt your children to collect them and take them home.
This week we have lots to look forward to starting tomorrow with the next round of the indoor athletics and, in the afternoon, the district netball ralley. We wish all of our competitors the very best of luck and look forward to hearing the outcomes of both events.
As the week progresses we will be working hard in school to prepare for our last ever year group assembly. We hope that many of you will be able to share the experience on Friday morning.
This week also sees year 6 facing their second round of assessments this term so we can check both on progress and any tweaking we need to cover before the main SATs tests next term. We do try to keep these as low key as possible and stress to the children that it is their opportunity to show us what they can do and how well they can do it! Please help us by ensuring children are in school on time each morning and, where at all possible, not going out for appointments in the morning.
Next week we hope to see many of you at our termly consultations- the times for these will be sent out shortly.
