The end of a long hard week of assessments; most are now finished with just one more level 6 paper to attack on Monday.
All the children have worked really hard throughout the week and their progress across the year so far is evident in their outcomes- all of which they are keen to know as soon as the papers have been marked!
As a little light relief both classes spent time this week creating short animations using pivot stick animator. Elder took this on to another stage when they were asked to create animations that conveyed a message. Some ingenious film clips were the outcome with a mix of written and visual messages created. These ranged from anti bullying to the name of our class to reaching for the stars in line with our recent PSHE unit, going for goals.
Moving into the last week of this half term, the timetable returns to normal and we look forward to seeing lots of children in non uniform next Friday, 14th February, in order to raise money for the Brittle Bone Society. this event follows a highly successful and informative presentation in assembly on Thursday by the house captain of Mars- well done Megan and helpers.
Enjoy your weekend and the last week of half term.

Another week gone and already we are half way through this half term- it doesn't seem possible that time goes so quickly.
The children have been working really hard to investigate things of a scientific nature- I'm sure they can all tell you about what sorts of things will dissolve and what won't. After our Harry Potter launch last week there are a number of pots of highly successful crystals growing on the heaters in the classroom.
Artwork has been quite high priority this week, all with a link to Harry Potter. There are some really talented artists in year 6 and their work is now evident around the classroom display boards. It's worth popping in at the end of the day to see our Harry Potter portraits and people in motion work.
Year 6 will be having a week of interim assessments starting on February 3rd. Please try to avoid dental and other appointments during the mornings of this week.
Hope the weather stays a little drier this weekend as the football team are all desperate to start their matches for the term.
Have a good weekend.

The end of a busy week!
What a great start to our week- thank you to all of you who dressed up for our Harry Potter launch afternoon.
We had great fun investigating magical changes: exploding coca cola, creating sherbet, making colours disappear and then reappear amongst others.
Have a look at some of the pictures below.

It was great to welcome year 6 back this week. After a busy holiday they were all enthusiastic to get started on our new topic of Harry Potter.
We will be beginning our project on Monday with a science afternoon hoping to bring a touch of magic to the classrooms!
Children are welcome to bring in cloaks, hats and wands to dress up and feel more a part of the magical theme of the afternoon. Please ensure any that are brought in have some form of identification on them- one black witches cloak looks very much like another! Cloaks do not have to be expensive- it's amazing what you can do with a black bin liner. Costumes need to be hung in the cloakroom in the morning- they are just for the afternoon session.
We look forward to exciting afternoon.
If you have seen the school diary dates for the term you will see that we have booked a trip to the Harry Potter Studios as a fantastic finish to our topic. You should have received a letter about this on Friday- Please respond as promptly as possible as we are unable to fully confirm the visit with the studios until we pay for the tickets.
Lots of exciting events and activities are planned for the term ahead and we look forward to sharing some of them with you in our assembly later this term- book the date in your diaries now.

Welcome to 2014!
Hope you all had a great Christmas with Santa delivering most of your wish lists.
2014 has arrived and we would like to wish everyone a very happy new year as we enjoy the last week of the Christmas break.
A huge thank you for the very generous gifts that we received at the end of term.
See you all next week- don't forget that homework on DB Primary- we are looking forward to reading your book reviews. (Not Mrs Carter's Literacy group- you have something else to complete).

Last week began with James and Cat, our head boy and girl, accompanying me down to St. Nicholas' Church to decorate our Christmas tree- year 6 had made some amazing salt dough creations, miniature crackers and a variety of paper chains with which to festoon our tree. A photo appeared in last week's news letter and I hope that some of you were able to visit the tree and see for yourself their efforts alongside all the other 70 trees as part of the Christmas Tree Festival.
Tuesday saw the whole school participating in our Christmas Celebration- The Magical Christmas Jigsaw. Year 6 took some leading roles within the celebration and there were many wonderful comments from parents on their performances. Certainly a last Christmas at Crabtree to remember.
This week sees the final week of the Autumn term and still plenty going on in year 6.
We await with anticipation the Christmas dinner on Wednesday and the imaginative Christmas hats that the children create prior to lunch time. Don't forget- if you ordered a school Christmas lunch you won't need your usual packed lunch on Wednesday.
Thursday is the now regular Christmas gym/ dance assembly to the school. This year it will be just years 5 and 6 competing with their Christmas displays to amaze us with their talent and again, their creativity- the children have choreographed their own class dances. A brilliant example of how well prepared they are by Miss Thomas for team challenges.
Following this extravaganza is the year 6 Christmas party.
Children should come in uniform as usual and may bring a change of clothes for the afternoon if they wish. Please make sure that any outfits are in clearly named carrier bags and if you collect your child at the end of the day do ask them if they have got all their uniform including their shoes!!
Friday- our last day children may bring in appropriately rated DVDs to share in the class and games to play at some point during the day. Nothing electrical please- phones i pads etc are too valuable to be brought in to school as toys.
Here's to the last few days of term.

Christmas has begun!
Christmas has certainly begun at Crabtree this week. The children have been very busy making Christmas decorations for the hall and their classrooms. The result is very festive. Elm must have broken a record for the number of paper chain links in one room (1132 at the last count) and in Elder the line of dancing santas is a sight to behold!
The children have also been working hard to learn the lines for all of the songs in the Christmas Celebration. Some children have speaking parts in the celebration and we are keen that they know their lines by heart by Monday. So, if you find yourself with a quiet moment (!) over the weekend please do encourage the children to learn their lines.
As you are probably aware the school is hosting the Christmas Fayre on Saturday and as a result the children have been asked to bring their PE kits home for a much needed wash. Please could you ensure that the children have their PE kits back in school on Monday.
Finally, in literacy the children have started a new unit of work on journalistic writing. This week the children spent some time looking at newspaper articles (many taken from the very popular children's newspaper First News). Next week we will continue this work by looking at news broadcasts. We will focus on those aimed at children and so will spend some part of the week watching and analysing Newsround.
We hope you have an enjoyable weekend and find some time to relax in this very busy season!
Thank you for your support.
