Friday again!
The end of a long week of assessments for all the children who have worked exceptionally hard throughout. The level of commitment to their papers has been really pleasing to see and the results achieved reflect their efforts. We look forward to sharing these results with you at consultations.
As we move into the final week of this half term we will be back to our normal routine of literacy and maths groups.
One highlight to look forward to next week is the Gym and Dance Display at Sir John Lawes on Monday afternoon. As we will be walking to and from SJL in whatever conditions the weather throws at us please ensure that your child has suitable shoes and a warm, waterproof coat to wear.
Many thanks in anticipation of the event to those parents who have volunteered to walk with us. We hope you enjoy the display. Having been in previous years we can promise you a real treat and we are sure that all those children who are involved in our own gym display later this term will come away inspired to try something new.
One week to go and we'll be half way through the year! Where has that time gone?

Just a quick message today- please note that year 6 assembly is on Friday 1st March NOT this Friday 1st February.
Today was our session with the happy Puzzle company and the children met the challenges with great determination. Below you will find a few pictures of their activities.

Well, the snow finally arrived and we hope that you all a had a good time last weekend playing in it before it turned to ice.
Despite the excitement of the white stuff, year 6 have been working just as hard as ever.
We spent an afternoon doing magical science, some of which we await the results- hopefully over the next week or so crystals will appear where once there was just liquid. Icing sugar transformed into something zingy on our taste buds- sherbet and the children were all highly entertained with teacher led coca cola volcanoes!
An integral part of all our topic work this term involves the children learning about working together in successful groups- more will follow as they move through the term's activities.
New groupings with Mrs Morris and Mrs Carter are proving very successful with children eagerly going off to maths and literacy with a change of teacher. We hope that the effort they are all putting into practice in the classrooms will be reflected in our up and coming assessment week.
Assessment week is the week beginning 4th February when assessments will take place in the mornings throughout the week. Please try to avoid taking your children out of school for appointments during this week.

Welcome back and a happy new year to everyone.
This week saw the beginning of our new topic which started with children being sorted into Hogwarts Houses. These will run alongside their school houses and any points earned will be transferred across to count towards both.
They will work in their house groups to complete challenges towards the Tri Wizard Cup throughout the term with the successful house in each class announced at the end of term.
Yesterday's trip to the Harry Potter Studios was a great finish to our first week back and adults and children alike were very excited as we set off.
Much searching for golden snitches kept eyes focused not just on the amazing exhibits in front of us but also on the area above our heads. Children were able to collect stamps in a Harry Potter passport as they went around, a souvenir of their trip to the studios.
Along the way there was an opportunity to fly a broomstick or the Weasley's famous flying car. As you can see below the fun wasn't just for the children!
On Monday the children will be considering their learning journey over the next term by suggesting reasonable ideas that they would like to include in the work we do- some suggestions for constructing Diagon Alley in the classrooms have already been made- any ideas for completing these ambitious plans would be welcomed!

Well, Christmas is upon us and the holidays have finally arrived.
Everyone in year 6 has worked really hard throughout the entire term and deserves a well earned break from lessons.
We are sure you will agree that their concert was fantastic; in such a short space of time the children worked incredibly well together to create a truly memorable performance. Despite illness and children taking on lines they had never rehearsed the end result went seamlessly. Well done all round!
Decorations and parties dominated the final week and much fun (and noise!) was had on our party afternoon. Hopefully your children have brought home their decorative creations to share around the house.
Looking ahead to next term, we are all very excited about our long awaited trip to the Harry Potter Studios and our consequent topic work- very science and literacy based.
It just remains for us to say a huge thank you for the very generous gifts that we all received at the end of term and to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and new year. We look forward to seeing all the children again on the 8th January.

Christmas approaches
A big thank you to all parents and children for the fantastic effort that has gone into providing the costumes for our year 6 play. The first time we saw the children all dressed up on the stage the sight really was breath taking.
Everyone has worked so hard to learn their lines, and some children did have a lot of lines to learn. We hope that you enjoy watching your child's performance as much as we have enjoyed putting the show together.
Please ensure that on the evening performance children are at school by 6:45p.m. They may bring something quiet to do to keep them amused whilst other year groups perform. However, please make it clear to the children that they are responsible for whatever they bring in, any games should be age appropriate and it cannot be plugged into the wall sockets!
At the end of performances children can be collected from their own classrooms.
